The Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (LHWCA), known commonly as simply the Longshore Act, is a set of Federal workers’ compensation laws that mandate maritime employers to have insurance coverage for work injuries and occupational diseases for workers who are injured or become ill while working on the navigable waters of the United States, or in adjoining areas, and for certain other classes of workers covered by extensions of this Act.
