When you do anything that pertains to the ocean and international waters, like selling a boat, then you are required to follow the guidelines set forth through maritime law. These guidelines include registering your boat by the rules set forth by the United States Coast Guard. All boats have a registered number on them like a VIN number of a car which is unique to every boat. You must register a boat and have a license for it too. The coast guard maintains all of this information.

Historical shipwrecks with cargoes of porcelain and pottery are perfect time capsules if properly excavated and researched. Shipwrecks which are frozen in time gives a correct into ancient maritime trade and the goods traded at the time when the ship was lost. We have learned about different shipbuilding designs, construction methods and been able to map shipbuilding sites and learned how they changed over time, due to political events.
